According to the Korea Tourism Organization's public holiday page (checked Sep 2026), some businesses close for several days in a row around Seollal and Chuseok, and posted opening hours often do not show this.

Holidays

Korea has a long list of public holidays. On official holidays, the same page says, offices and banks close, while palaces, museums, department stores and amusement facilities generally stay open.

The two that behave differently are the lunar new year, Seollal, and the autumn harvest holiday, Chuseok. Both move with the lunar calendar, both run for several days, and many people travel to see family. It is hard to predict from the outside which businesses will close for them.

Posted opening hours often do not account for this. A place listed as open every day can be closed for several days, and nothing online may tell you in advance.

Late nights and early mornings

Some bathhouses run around the clock, which can help if you land at dawn or miss a last train, and some also hold luggage. Ask about both before you rely on them. A place that closes at midnight may stop selling entry well before that, so late arrivals need a venue that genuinely operates overnight rather than one that merely closes late.

What we can and cannot show

We carry regular weekly hours and, where confirmed, whether a place runs around the clock and whether it stores luggage. We do not carry holiday closures, because that information does not exist in any feed we can trust. Before Seollal or Chuseok, call ahead or ask your accommodation to call.
