For a first jjimjilbang, pick one near a subway exit with a restaurant and a shared lounge, like Sparex beside exit 6 of Dongmyo Station. Most listed day prices are ₩11,000 to ₩15,500, and you can walk in without booking.

Walking into your first jjimjilbang is easier than it looks: pay at the desk, take a key, bathe on your side, change into the clothes you are given and meet everyone on the heated floor. Our guide to how a jjimjilbang visit works goes through each step. This post picks bathhouses where that first visit is simple: easy to find, easy to follow inside, with somewhere to eat and rest.

What makes a place easy the first time

A short walk from a subway exit means you are not lost in the cold with wet hair afterward. A clear layout, one floor for paying and a sign for each side, saves the awkward moment at the door. A restaurant and a shared lounge let you and your friends meet up and stay a while. Once you have the hang of it, try a body scrub.

How we picked these

We looked for bathhouses near a subway station, with a simple way in and a shared lounge, and most have food inside. Where our data shows a place is used to foreign guests, we included that. Hours vary, so check the card before you go.

Questions

Do I need to speak Korean at a jjimjilbang?

Not really. You pay, take a key and follow the signs to your side. Staff at many places speak little English, so a translation app or a phrase card covers the rest.

Can a couple or a mixed group go together?

Yes, but only as far as the shared floor. The baths are split by sex, so agree on a spot in the lounge to meet after you change.

How long should a first visit take?

Give it at least two to three hours: a soak, some time in the heated rooms, something to eat and a rest. You can stay much longer if you like.
